Some writers have been known to book hotel rooms to complete their writing; I have to say, in the current climate, with a cost-of-living crisis, you need the bank balance of J K Rowling to do that and the free time of a retiree. Even booking a cheap Airbnb would be difficult, and the check-in/check-out times don’t work with a job and a budget; you could make it work if you write at night and don’t mind the outlay, but that wasn’t for me. I have to say, equally, I find the city wakes me up this way and that, full of distractions, so I didn’t attempt coffee shops either. I also didn’t want to travel too far because being in transit eats into my limited writing time.
So, how did I achieve deep work with my writing and also not have my spoons fall off a cliff? I’ll tell you!
