From the late 1970s, neoliberal capitalism has reshaped our economies and our imagination. It rebranded itself as the only possible system—natural, inevitable, eternal—by way of privatisation, deregulation, and the creeping spread of market ideology. Cracks have n

ow begun to show: rising inequality, climate breakdown, and wholesale disillusionment.

But change has yet to come. Not because humans lack concern, but because capitalism is adaptive. It reimagines itself through greenwashing, digital poverty, and ESG investing, offering cosmetic fixes that delay true change. This is not progress. This is inertia disguised as innovation.

But what if we had another story to tell?

Throughout the article, we will explore why change isn't a foregone conclusion—and why ideas like Universal Basic Income (UBI) and progressive wealth taxation offer genuine, tangible paths forward. We will also illustrate what you, as an individual, can do. From using art to uncover injustice, to echoing marginalised voices, to making mutual aid accessible—change starts not in policy, but in culture.

Because the greatest trick of capitalism was to make us believe we couldn't imagine something better. But we can. And we will.
